Green Mossy Banks (Sam Lee, James Keay)
Sam Lee egyedülálló szerepet játszik a brit zenei életben, hiszen túl azon, hogy elismert és eredeti folkelőadó, népdalgyűjtőként és természetvédőként is aktív. Az angol folktradícióból és a vándorló cigányok dalaiból kiindulva őrzi és újítja meg az említett dalhagyományokat. A 2022. október 12-i koncertre elhozta magával legutóbbi lemeze gitáros-producerét, a Suede alapítótagját, Bernard Butlert is.
Sam Lee plays a unique role in the British music scene: recognised for his work as an original folk performer, he is also active as a folk song collector and environmental conservationist. Using the English folk tradition and the songs of itinerant Gypsies as a starting point, he preserves them in a renewed form. For his 12 October 2022 concert, he also brought along Suede founding member Bernard Butler, who both played guitar on his most recent album and produced it.

A Pakisztánban nemrégiben felfedezett idős mester, Ustad Noor Bakhsh első turnéja szerencsénkre érintette a Zene Házát is 2023. június 9-én. Dalaiban egy különleges pengetős hangszer és egy összetett zenei repertoár találkozik. Ustad Noor Bakhsh Beludzsisztánban él és egy 20. századi beludzsiai hangszer, a benju (billentyűs citera) mestere – a világ szenzációként fedezte fel 2022-es első LP-jével.
We are fortunate that the first tour undertaken by the recently discovered elderly Pakistani master musician Ustad Noor Bakhsh included a visit to the House of Music Hungary on 9 June 2023. His songs are the result of a meeting between a unique plucked instrument and a complex musical repertoire. An inhabitant of Balochistan, Ustad Noor Bakhsh is a master of the 20th-century Balochi instrument known as the benju (a kind of zither equipped with a keyboard), which caused a sensation around the world when his first LP came out in 2022.

A Zene Háza Szabadtéri színpadának első évadában egy Afrikából érkezett tradicionális, akusztikus zenekar is bemutatkozott 2022. augusztus 3-án. A ghánai Alostmen első európai turnéján olajoskannából készült buherahangszerekkel és transzba ejtő ritmusokkal hívott táncba. A gitár-ős pengetős hangszer, a kolongo köré épülő megszólalás, az észak-ghánai Frafra nép zenéjének tradicionális hangszerelését modernizálja.
The first season of the House of Music Hungary’s Open-Air Stage featured a visit by a traditional acoustic ensemble from Africa on 3 August 2022. On their first European tour, Ghana’s Alostmen invited the audience to dance to the trance-inducing rhythms produced by home-made instruments made from oil cans. Based around the kolongo, a plucked ancestor of the guitar, their act updates the traditional instrumentation of the music of the Frafra people of northern Ghana.

- augusztus 15-én a lyoni Ti’kaniki kollektíva mutatkozott be Magyarországon. A francia és Réunion szigetéről érkezett tagokból, különböző származású emberekből álló együttes a maloyát, a Réunion sziget hagyományos zenéjét játssza. A rabszolgaság korszakából származó maloya sokáig a titkos ünnepségeken, a kabarokon szólt, ahol a rabszolgák rituális transzzenével erősítették meg szabadságvágyukat.
On 15 August 2023, Lyon’s Ti’kaniki collective made their Hungarian debut. The ensemble, made up of members of various ethnicities from France and the island of Réunion, plays maloya, the traditional music of the latter. Dating from the era of slavery, maloya was long played at secret celebrations called kabars, where slaves affirmed their yearning for freedom with ritualistic trance music.
A5 Los Wembler’s de Iquitos

2023 nyarán a Zene Háza dél-amerikai fókusszal szervezett minifesztivált, ahol két legendás zenekar lépett fel. A kolumbiai joropo egyik alapzenekara, a Cimarrón mellett július 15-én a perui chicha hetvenes évek óta meghatározó pszichedelikus formációja, a Los Wembler’s de Iquitos táncoltatott vibráló, boldogsághormon koncertjén. Egy igazi műfaji legenda, amelynek munkásságából a Khruangbintől a Meridian Brothersig sokan merítenek.
In the summer of 2023, the House of Music Hungary organised a mini-festival with a South American focus, featuring performances by two legendary bands. Taking the stage along with Cimarrón, one of the core bands of the Colombian joropo scene, at this vibrant happy hormone-generating concert that had everyone dancing away on 15 July was Los Wembler’s de Iquitos, the leading line-up of psychedelic Peruvian chicha music since the 1970s. A true legend of the genre, their work inspires many from Khruangbin to Meridian Brothers.

A Zene Háza 2022 tavaszán Tabula Rasa néven indított sorozatában a címnek megfelelően üres lappal, a nulláról indít négy zenész, akik másfél nap próbafolyamat után adnak egy improvizatív koncertet. 2023. február 24-én a tuvai származású, de a világ számos pontján élő és alkotó torokénekes, Sainkho Namtchylak volt a kurátor és a Jü zenekar korábbi felállása, Mészáros Ádám (gitár), Hock Ernő (bőgő) valamint Halmos András (dob) alkották a kísérő triót.
As the name suggests, the House of Music Hungary’s Tabula Rasa series, launched in the spring of 2022, challenges four musicians to start from scratch with a blank slate by giving an improvisational concert after a day and a half of rehearsals. On 24 February 2023, throat singer Sainkho Namtchylak, who is originally from the Tuva region of Russia, but now lives and works in many parts of the world, served as the curator, with the former line-up of the band Jü – consisting of Mészáros Ádám (guitar), Hock Ernő (bass) and Halmos András (drums) – making up the accompanying trio.

Hagyomány és szabadzene címmel Közép-Ázsia altaj és nogaj hőseposzai kerültek színpadra 2023. június 11-én. Cheinesh Baitushkina Dél-Szibériából az Altajból érkezett, ahol máig eleven hagyomány a sámánhit és az eposzmesélés. Az este folyamán még az Észak-Kaukázusból érkezett Arslanbek Sultanbekov az Edige ősi eposzból adott elő részeket magyar kísérleti zenészekkel kiegészülve. Itt most egy lenyűgöző Baitushkina előadás hallható.
The Tradition and Improvised Music programme held on 11 June 2023 brought to the stage the heroic epics of the Altai and Nogai peoples of Central Asia. Arriving from the Altai region of southern Siberia, where shamanism and epic storytelling remain alive today, was Cheinesh Baitushkina. Representing the northern Caucasus, Arslanbek Sultanbekov performed parts of the ancient epic Edige, accompanied by Hungarian experimental musicians. This recording includes an amazing performance by Baitushkina.
B3 Madalitso Band

- augusztus 14-én az ösztönös, autentikus és sodró ritmusokkal felvértezett malawi Madalitso Band duó ragadta magával a Zene Háza közönségét. A lábbal vert dobbal, gitárral és a háromméteres, egyhúros babatone nevű hangszerrel kiálló Madalitso élőben tapsra, táncra, mosolyra késztet, és a zenekar fellépése közben újragondolsz mindent, amit az afrikai hangzásról és hangszerelésről addig tudni véltél.
On 14 August 2023, the Malawian duo Madalitso Band, armed with viscerally authentic and sweeping rhythms, captivated the audience at the House of Music Hungary. Driven by a kick drum, guitar and a three-metre-long one-stringed instrument called the babatone, Madalitso live in concert will make you clap, dance and smile as you reconsider everything you thought you knew about African sound and instrumentation.
B4 Mazaher

Az Egyiptomból érkezett Mazaher együttesben a zar szellemiségéhez illően a nőké a főszerep: Om Sameh, Om Hassan és Nour El Sabah a műfaj utolsó előadói közé tartoznak. Az ősi, több évszázados hagyománnyal rendelkező zar olyan rituális zene, mely segíti a lélek megtisztulását, megbékülését. A 2023-as Budapest Ritmo fesztivál április 12-i nyitókoncertje szakrális dimenziókba emelte a közönséget.
A koncert a Bartók Tavasz keretében Hangvetővel és a Magyar Zene Házával közös programként, a Müpa szervezésében valósult meg.
In keeping with the spirit of zar music, the Egyptian band Mazaher places women in the leading roles: Om Sameh, Om Hassan and Nour El Sabah are among the last performers of the genre. With its centuries-old tradition, zar is ancient ritual music that helps purify and reconcile the soul. Their concert opening the 2023 Budapest Ritmo festival on 12 April elevated the audience into sacred dimensions.
The concert took place as part of the Bartók Spring festival as a joint programme between Hangvető and the House of Music Hungary, and organised by Müpa Budapest.

Javanese Wayang: Arjuna’s Deep Meditation (excerpt) (tradicionális) (traditional)
Arjuna mély meditációja címmel egy Európában igen ritkán látható, gamelán zenei kísérettel megszólaló jávai árnybábjátékot élhetett át a közönség 2023. április 29-én, két teltházas eseményen. Monumentális, nemzetközi gamelán zenekar – az Agus Prasetyo vezette hazai Surya Kencana A és hat jávai zenész és énekes – kíséretében az árnyjáték egyik legnagyobb, világszerte is elismert mestere, a Jáva szigetéről származó Ki Purbo Asmoro bábmester vezetésével egy ősi jávai történet vetült vászonra.
Two sold-out events held on 29 April 2023 exposed the audience to a Javanese shadow puppet show, rarely seen in Europe, titled Arjuna’s deep meditation and accompanied by gamelan music. Accompanied by a monumental and international gamelan orchestra – Hungary’s own Surya Kencana A led by Agus Prasetyo playing together with six Javanese musicians and singers – an ancient Javanese story was projected onto the screen under the direction of one of the world’s greatest masters of shadow puppetry, Ki Purbo Asmoro, himself from the island of Java.
